The competition that began in November on Mnet, featuring 24 participants vying to secure spots as finalists in the I-Land Season 2 N/a girl group audition series(아이랜드2), has reached its culmination. The I-Land 2 winners were revealed on July 4, 2024. The series, hosted by ZEROBASEONE’s Hanbin with special guest host Jeon Somi for the finale, boasted a panel of esteemed mentors including producer Teddy Park, BIGBANG’s Taeyang, VVN, 24, Monika Shin, and Lee Jung-lee.
Breaking boundaries to fulfill their youthful aspirations, the K-pop survival competition scouted talents through global auditions spanning 10 countries and 13 cities. The culmination of this journey led to the formation of a 7-member girl group poised to lead a new era in music. The final episode of I-Land 2, which aired live on Mnet Kpop on July 4, 2024, at 9:30 PM KST, unveiled the long-awaited list of winners, delighting audiences eager for a glimpse into the future stars.
In I-Land 2 Episode 11, special hosts Jeon Somi and Hanbin kick off the proceedings by announcing the selection process: five members of the I-LAND 2 group will be chosen through I-MATE votes, while the producers will select one member. The episode focuses on the final test, dubbed the ‘Produce by TEDDY’ test, where contestants perform to new songs titled DRIP and FAKE IT.
In this pivotal test, the contestants are divided into two groups, each tasked with performing one of the songs. The roles for DRIP include Bang Jeemin as centre, Yoon Jiyoon as main vocalist, Koko as main rapper, Nam Yuju in Part 4, and Kim Gyuri in Part 5. Meanwhile, for FAKE IT, Jeong Saebi takes the centre position, Choi Jungeun serves as the main vocalist, Ryu Sarang handles the main rap, Fuko takes Part 4, and Mai is assigned Part 5. Both teams deliver impressive performances, showcasing their potential and making compelling cases for why they should secure spots in the debut group.
