Apartment 404 Episode 3 Recap and Review: The new variety show stars BLACKPINK’s Jennie, Yoo Jae-suk, Oh Na-ra, and Yang Se-chan as well as Moving stars Cha Tae-hyun and Lee Jung-ha. The 8-episode series follows these 6 members through various mysteries in a large apartment complex. They are given reenactments of real-life incidents and through games, they solve the mysteries. Apartment 404 Episode 3 Recap
Episode 3 begins with BLACKPINK’s Jennie, Yoo Jae-suk, Oh Na-ra, Yang Se-chan, Cha Tae-hyun and Lee Jung-ha dressed in the 90s get-up. From F.I.N.KL to Lee Hyo-ri, the cast members looked amazing! They entered the ground in front of the apartment building where they encountered many stalls selling Y2K prep kits and different Korean food items like tteokbokki, fishcakes and whole fried chicken.
The episode is set in December 1999- a time when the ‘Y2K bug’ was famous. It was a time when electronics were not able to recognise the year 2000 and many thought that as they entered the new millennium, their world would come to a standstill. This sparked a wave of hysteria amongst people who thought that ‘D-Day’ was coming and they must change their ways before they meet their maker. It also caused many to leave their jobs and take up nefarious activities to cope with the idea that the earth wouldn’t exist in the year 2000.
As the members enjoyed food, they noticed a few interesting things straight away- one being a unique symbol of a bull or an animal with horns. As soon as they could get a grip on the clues, a crazed man began screaming from the building. He said that the people would pay for their sins and threw a wad of cash into the air, surprising the members. The people running the stalls were also the representatives and residents of the building, who immediately began telling the members that he had lost his mind and that he was a drug user.
Keeping all that information in mind, the members were separated into two teams- one being Jennie, Jung-ha and Se-chan and the other with Jae-seok, Tae-hyun and Na-ra. Going into their apartments, they immediately began searching for clues. Se-chan’s team immediately found a timetable and a notebook with clues highlighted. The other team, led by Jae-seok, found the symbol yet again in many places in the apartment.
Through a hilarious game of ‘Hide and Seek’, the winning team (Jae-seok’s team) received the winner’s meal as well as their first clue- a videotape and the key to the crazed man’s apartment, Unit 613. The other team also received a videotape but not the key. As they watch along, the teams deduce the situation of the game- the apartment building is a cult that was set up in 1999.
Based on a true incident, the cult, led by a couple, scammed many educated people out of billions of Korean won under the guise of cleaning them of worldly greed before they meet their maker in the new millennium.
Through a few hilarious squabbles, the team find a book of prophecies where they see that a spy amongst them has observed their behaviour and come up with things that they would normally do around them. Once all comes true, the cult leader (or the spy) will reveal the final prophecy. This leads to them being suspicious of Jae-seok even further, while he tries to convince them otherwise.
After yet another hilarious gameplay, they found the cult who were praying to their leader but they were not there. As Jennie’s team won, they saw the clue on the followers’ feet in red letters- ‘tiger’ and the actor Ryu Seung-ryong. Jennie quickly solved that the ‘tiger’ belonged to the Chinese zodiac sign, which belonged to Jung-ha, Na-ra and Se-chan. But only Jung-ha and Na-ra worked with Ryu Seung-ryong.
At that moment, Jennie and Se-chan revealed that the real representatives of the building unknowingly slipped that Na-ra had taken a picture with them the day before, leading them to believe that Na-ra came for an additional shoot- making her the cult leader or the spy.
In a shocking twist, it was revealed that Jung-ha was the cult leader, leaving everybody shocked at his acting skills. As someone who was known as the ‘clumsy’ guy, they did not expect him to be the spy, even though many signs suggested otherwise. In yet another twist, the members were told that the ‘real representatives’ were the actors planted by the production crew from day 1 to throw them off. In a series of pictures during the three shoots, the ladies took pictures with a sign that represented the cult- the bull symbol.
Apartment 404 Episode 3 Review
Compared to the rest of the episodes, this one had a lot more depth and intricate clues that left the viewers gob-smacked as well. With the revelation of Jung-ha being the spy, the viewers were just as shocked as the rest of the cast members. It also seems as though the cast members have become more comfortable with each other, leading to natural chemistry blooming on-screen! This episode had us gripping our seats until the very end and left us waiting for the next episode where the makers will take us on yet another journey!
