Villainess Level 99 Episode 8 Review: In the last episode, we saw Yumiella participating in the school ball and dancing with Patrick. Let us look at how this episode went below.
Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss but I’m Not the Demon Lord or Akuyaku Reijō Reberu 99: Watashi wa Ura Bosudesuga Maō de wa Arimasen (悪役令嬢レベル99 ~私は裏ボスですが魔王ではありません~) is a new anime series based on the Japanese light novel series with the same name written by Satori Tanabata with illustrations by Tea.
Directed by Minoru Yamaoka, the script of the show is written by Fumihiko Shimo and character designs are handled by Hitomi Kaiho and Lo Ho Kim.
Mayu Maeshima lends her voice to the opening theme song, Love or Hate?, while Fairouz Ai and Rina Hidaka, embodying their respective characters, perform the ending theme song titled Suki ga Rebechi (好きがレベチ, Love on a Different Level).
I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Villainess Level 99 Episode 8 Review and Recap: Ryu Is Cute

In today’s episode, we witnessed the motherly side of Yumiella, who unexpectedly gets a child. Now, before everyone gets a heart attack, let me clarify that this child is actually a dragon. Yumiella was called upon by Baron Montford to save them from the destruction of a dragon. After essentially getting rid of the parent, Yumiella decides to take the dragon egg and be the mother so that it can grow up to be a good transportation medium.
This episode was quite funny as you see Yumiella literally treating a ferocious dragon as her child, and even though she thought she would use it to escape the Kingdom someday, she genuinely falls for her adopted kid and even names him Ryu. She is so much in love with this child that she fails to see how the dragon’s appearance might be lovely and cute only for Yumiella herself and not others.
With the way she was raising Ryu, we also got a clear picture of just how powerful our heroine is. She is not only capable of handling a dragon, but she is also powerful enough to make it hatch with her own magic. Ryu will definitely grow up to be a very important character in the future, and yes, even I find him quite cute.
But that is not all, we also explore Patrick’s love for Yumiella. As predicted, he is, and will in the future, struggle with relaying his feelings towards our heroine because of how obtuse she is. Yumiella does not understand or realise Patrick’s love for her, and hence, even unknowingly shoots down his chances of confessing his adoration.

But even though Patrick knows that he is nowhere near the level of beating Yumiella, he still tries his best in his own way to get stronger. This is perhaps because he thinks Yumiella is only interested in men who are stronger than her. Hopefully, a day will come when Patrick will realise that Yumiella only said that to keep others at bay, and she too, is interested in him romantically.
Verdict
Today’s episode was funny and entertaining. The one gripe I have about this episode is the bad CGI that we had to see. I know CGI’s are not always bad, but really, this one was not that good to look at. But other than that, this was a decent enough episode whose conclusion give us an interesting hint for the next episode.
