The Witch And The Beast Episode 2 Review and Recap – Merciless Witches

This is a new and pretty underrated anime that not many people are talking about. The story centers around two unique individuals who carry a special vendetta against witches. Ashaf is a soft-spoken man who is also a well-versed mage, but his partner Guideau is a beastly lady who cannot stand any witch because of her history with them. Apparently, she is cursed to be in her current body and has been searching for the witch who did this to her for a very long time.
This story is pretty interesting, and it also sports some intriguing characters. In this world where magic is available, there are some witches and a few mages, who can use magic. The witches are especially hated because they have the power to place curses. And there are only 3 ways by which one can lift that curse.
One is to get a kiss from a prince or a true love, next is if the which lifts the curse because she had a change of her heart, and lastly, one can break the curse by kissing the witch. Ever since then, Guideau has been looking for her enemy to get her body back and take revenge.
In this episode, as well, she is fed up with menial jobs and is impatiently waiting for her next mission. A job does come around, but it might end up becoming something too much to handle as the death ratio caused by the witch is immense.

The anime has a very dark vibe, and the plotline is pretty unique. Here, there is a theme of witch hunting, and it is shown that there are legitimate reasons behind that hunt. Whether all the witches are actually wicked or not, we are yet to see, but till now, all the witches have been rather evil.
This series is also gory and showcases violence without any filter, which works well with the gloomy and dark setting. The characters are specifically mysterious as we only partly know about the curse Guideau has. I’m still not sure if Ashaf has a motive behind helping Guideau or not, but we shall see.
Verdict
All in all, this is an interesting anime that I will definitely continue. This show also has a seinen tag on the Myanimelist website, which means it will handle mature and darker themes. If that is the case, we can expect things to be more impressive in the future. Give this a try and see for yourself whether you will continue this or not.
