Crime Scene Returns Trailer: SHINee’s Key, IVE’s Yujin and Others Put on Their Thinking Caps to Solve a Murder Mystery

Making its long-awaited comeback, the one-of-a-kind role playing variety series is set to finally resume action in 2024 as a TVING exclusive, as suggested by the Crime Scene Returns trailer released on January 9. As Korea’s RPG program, this show originally premiered with its first three seasons on the JTBC network. Rebranding its look on the surface, the series will now be moving to a different platform, while also serving its role as the fourth season of the franchise, welcoming a new-coming trio as part of the main cast.

Crime Scene Returns variety series (크라임씬 리턴즈) will unpause the long hiatus as the previous, also the third, season came out 2017, i.e. nearly 7 years ago. Initially commencing its journey with the first season in 2014, the role playing program had garnered positive views, resulting in the long-running franchise’s brand new upcoming season as well. Original cast members and players, Jang Jin, Park Ji-yoon and Jang Dong-min are set to make their return as regular participants. Joining them for the first time, SHINee Key, IVE Yujin aka An Yu-jin and Joo Hyun-young.

The basic premise entails the cast members to play the commonly recognised game of ‘mafia’, but here they don’t merely sport certain roles, full-fledged backstories and in-depth discussions play a dominant role in identifying the real murderer in their midst. Over the years, the show’s format has relatively stayed consistent with the exception of a few roles being introduced in each advancing season. Much like always, the new season will also focus on the basic re-creation of a murder scene mockup, followed by all members being given the case briefing and being assigned different roles to play in the mystery.

The subsequent seasons introduced new roles such as that of the Detective and Detective’s Assistant. While such new revelations for the upcoming seasons are yet to revealed, we can expect the liars to spin fabricated narratives, while the innocent players go about figuring out the culpable party and the detective holds 1-on-1 interrogation sessions to narrow down the list of suspects. Providing an immersive game experience, wherein all players take their roles seriously, you can anticipate new twists and turns as we crawl closer to the premiere month.
