20 Years of Kal Ho Naa Ho: Different Types of Love Depicted in the Movie

Kal Ho Naa Ho turns 20 today. The movie taught us to live, love, laugh, smile, and also cry a bit. Directed by Nikkhil Advani, the story and screenplay are penned by Karan Johar. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan, Jaya Bachchan, Reema Lagoo, and many others.

KHNH is full of life lessons. Every scene has something noteworthy that stays with you. Whether it's SRK reminding us to smile with teeth wide open or Sweetu being optimistic about love and life. Also, the music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy makes the movie even more heartwarming.

As we celebrate 20 years of Kal Ho Naa Ho, we have listed different kinds of love we witnessed in the movie.

Aman loves Naina so much that he wants to leave behind love for her, even when he's not around. How can one person adore the other to this extent, despite having a painful life themselves? Aman is truly an angel (as they say in the movie). He had the choice to experience happiness for whatever little time he had left. But he chose to think of Naina's well-being.

Sacrificial Love

Sweetu and Frankie's love story might be used to induce humour, but we cannot deny that their cuteness entertained us. Some love stories are easy-breezy, but they're still love stories. Deep down, we all want our romantic relationships to be fun and cheesy, without having to suffer through too much stress and trauma.

Sweet and Fun

Being in Naina's position is not easy. It's painful to know that you love someone and they love you too, but circumstances are heartbreaking, and you can't be together. Yet she didn't force Aman to be with her for whatever time he had left. She respected him so much that she was open to accepting love from a friend, with the hope that things would be all right. Naina could've again turned into a bitter person and complained about life being unfair, but she chose to be happy.

Painful But Hopeful

Kal Ho Naa Ho depicts love that is beyond romance. Jennifer Kapur should be admired for being so giving and forgiving towards her late husband's infidelity. It takes a very secure, kind, and empathetic person to be understanding of another person's wrongdoing. The way she adopted Jia and loved her like she was her own proves that some people are full of tenderness, no matter what misery life throws at them.

Giving and Forgiving

Rohit Patel loved Naina with only one expectation: he wanted her to be happy. He's a true friend who saw his best friend smile after ages and wanted to make sure she was happy forever. Even if it means that he doesn't receive the kind of love he's willing to give her. It is truly a sign of a genuine and giving person. Rohit's selfless act is not common in the real world, and we are thankful that KHNH showed us this healthy and genuine affection.
