2023 has been a year of big releases such as Barbie and Oppenheimer, but in terms of superhero movies, it hasn't been very big. The box office performances of superhero films in the year haven't been up to the mark.
In terms of Marvel's releases, the studio released Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in the first half of 2023. These were the only big releases from the studio on the big screen.
Currently, several other superhero projects are still in production, including the likes of Joker 2 and The Batman sequel and more. Marvel has also announced its slate for 2024 releases which includes Deadpool 3 and Captain America 4.
As for Marvel's web shows, the studio released one of the most-anticipated series on Disney+. So far, the studio released the first season of Secret Invasion, starring Samuel L. Jackson, Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman in lead roles.
DC has had several releases in 2023 so far, including, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, The Flash and also the recent release, Blue Beetle. The studio, which has been undergoing a revamp at the moment, has major releases lined up for 2024.

Yet another Marvel show that has left everyone excited for it is the second season of I am Groot. The series will release on September 6, 2023, and will consist of consists of five new animated episodes.
The much-awaited second season of Loki starring Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson, will be released on October 6, 2023. The show will mark the return of Jonathan Majors as Kang, who will also be in the form of several variants on the show.

As for the DC releases, the Aquaman sequel has been an anticipated one. This movie will be released on December 20 and will have Jason Momoa reprise his role as the superhero. The sequel has been helmed by director James Wan.
