Aakhri Sach on Hotstar: An Investigative Thriller on the Tragic Burari Deaths of 2018?

Hotstar Specials releases have been reeling out sundry Hindi series with gripping narratives and characters one can’t miss out on. After the release of some attention-grabbing storylines as told through shows like School of Lies, The Trial and more, here comes Aakhri Sach, a new crime investigative thriller series directed by Robbie Grewal and written by Saurav Dey.

With its trailer having been released a few days ago, the heartrending visuals captured largely imply that the web series is based on one of the scariest cases of infamous real-life tragedies the nation has ever seen. The scarring memories of the case are still alive in the mind of Delhiites and other Indian citizens alike.

The 2021 Netflix true crime docu-series House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths, created by Leena Yadav, was a three-parter series that dug deep into the theories surrounding the questionable demise of 11 members of the same family. However, the Hotstar show is a dramatised retelling of the case, thus loosely based on the aforementioned incident.

Tamannaah will lead the cast as the head of the investigation, looking into the complexities of a case that discovers 11 members of a family hanging at their own residence. The dramatic aspect of the show kicks in with the inspectors having to deal with the traumatic visions in their sleep as well, thereby affirming that the entire plot will significantly unfold via the point of view of Bhatia's character.

What is initially spoken of as a mass hanging case targeting all three generations of a family, soon dips into uncharted territory as Tamannaah’s character, Anya, also calls the involvement of dark magic or other spiritual interventions into action. The number 11 emerges as a common takeaway from further observations.

The Hotstar Specials original series refers to the victims as the Rajawat family, adding a fictional twist to the real-life source. Moreover, the same case has previously also been covered in an episode of Sony Entertainment’s Crime Patrol.

Revealing a thought-provoking dark reality of the human mind, the series also stars Abhishek Banerjee of Stree, Bhediya and Paatal Lok fame as Bhuvan. Alongside him, Shivin Narang will be making his OTT debut with this release. He will be playing the fiance of the girl who died.

Danish Iqbal, Rahul Bagga, Nishu Dikshit, Kriti Vij and Sanjeev Chopra will also be seen in pivotal roles.

Produced by Nirvikar Films, Aakhri Sach will start streaming on August 25, 2023, exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar.
