Mech Cadets Ending Explained: Did Stanford and his Friends Save Earth from the Sharg Queen?

Netflix’s latest animated action series has dropped and here we bring you Mech Cadets Ending Explained. The voice actors include Brandon Soo Hoo, Aparna Brielle, Victoria Grace, Josh Sundquist, Anairis Quinones, Daniel Day Kim, Robbie Daymond and Ming Na Wen.  The show is based on the Graphic Novel series Mech Cadet Yu created by Greg Pak and Takeshi Miyazawa. It has been directed by Hiroyuki Hayashi.

Incorporating a Pacific Rim concept, Mech Cadets is more good than bad as an animated series. There is good action and the story has also been nicely portrayed but the absence of humour is a miss. However, it isn’t something that pulls you out of the show that offers a more than satisfactory combo of action, emotion and visual aesthetics.

Mech Cadets Synopsis

Stanford, a janitor at the Sky Corps Military Base in Arizona, dreams of becoming a Sky Corps cadet just like his now-deceased father so that he too can bond with a Robo Mech and defend Earth against the dangerous Shargs, crab-like aliens. The robos first came to Earth from outer space 30 years ago during the Great Sharg War to help humans defeat the Shargs.

Since then, they have been visiting the planet to test and choose the cadets that are worthy of bonding with in order to keep the Shargs at bay. When Stanford comes across a robo in the desert and bonds with it, he is accepted by the academy but has to now prove his worth. Whether and how he does it is what the series primarily deals with.

Mech Cadets Ending Explained

Did Stanford and his Friends Save Earth from the Sharg Queen?

Yes. Stanford along with his teammates Frank, Anna and Olivia as well as Captain Tanaka did manage to prevent the queen Sharg and her babies from entering the Earth’s atmosphere. But it came at a cost; one that they didn’t expect. While fighting her in space, Stanford realised that his Robo, Buddy, had the ability to control gravity.

Thus they decided to send the queen and her kids inside a Black Hole created using Buddy’s power. However, Olivia, General Park’s daughter, realises that one needs to push the huge monster into the Black Hole and decides to go for it on her own in her robo (not a Robo Mech but one built on her father’s orders just in case they needed more firepower); sacrificing herself in the process. In other words, she went inside the Black Hole with the queen Sharg.

Who is Charlie?

We come across the name “Charlie” twice before finding out the character’s identity; first is when we see the name on a small device (like a flash drive) that Olivia had on her; the second time is in Captain Tanaka’s note on his digital notepad. It is only in Episode 10 that we realize how Charlie is connected to both Olivia and Tanaka. Charlie, whose real name is Charlotte, is Tanaka’s sister and Olivia’s mother; the wife of General Park. She died when Olivia was a little kid. Captain Tanaka and General Park are old friends.

Where is Alivia? Is she Alive?

In Episode 10, we see that Stanford, Frank, Anna along with Captain Tanaka and General Park set out into space to find Olivia. They seem to believe that she is out there somewhere alive. But it’s what happens at the end of the episode that is singularly interesting and even acts as a sign of a potential Season 2 of Mech Cadets.

Olivia is alive. She wakes up in a dark surrounding and a huge door opens in front of her. She is blinded by the bright white light that prevents her from seeing the dark figure walking towards her. This is where the season ends. The question is who is this person? Is it her mother Charlotte? Or is it Stanford’s father? If it is either of them, where are they and how are they still alive? Is it either of them who saved Olivia? Or, is it someone else?

Season 2 needs to answer these questions. It will probably show what happened to Charlotte and Stanford’s father as in how they died or how they disappeared. And we will get to find out how Stanford and the rest of the team track down Olivia. Since they are in space, there is no telling what kind of dangers await them.
