Heartbeat Episode 10 Recap

Heartbeat episode 10 starts with a confused In-hae asking Woo-hyeol about what why he needs her love and her love-filled blood! Woo-hyeol describes that since she opened his coffin, which would’ve been impossible for her anyway, and she bit him, a link formed between them, and so he needs her blood in order to become human. Unfortunately, the explanation doesn’t leave In-hae any closer to getting rid of her confusion, and she simply walks away, trying to understand what is happening.

Meanwhile, Do-sik tells Manager Koo that he needs a half-vampire with a scar to get rid of his curse. However, it won’t be an easy task since both his father and grandfather failed in their quest previously. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have much time on his hands, and thus he has to do whatever is necessary in order to stay alive. Koo agrees to help him in any way possible. At Shaded Oasis, Woo-hyeol and Yang-nam chat about his shortening life and In-hae’s inability to fall in love.

Elsewhere, Man-hwi gives Hae-won the portrait of Hae-sun from Woo-hyeol’s room, which leaves Hae-won shocked and confused. Man-hwi calls Woo-hyeol crazy, but the portrait leaves Hae-won with more questions, and she decides to find out who this woman is.

The next morning, In-hae tells Woo-hyeol that although she doesn’t mind giving him her blood, she doesn’t know whether her blood will ever be “full of love” and that he shouldn’t be banking on her. However, she does assure him not to give up hope either because things like these are not in her hands, at the end of the day. Just then, she gets a call telling her that Do-sik is in the hospital, and she rushes to meet him; this leaves Woo-hyeol wondering whether she really is a lost cause after all, considering how concerned she is for him.

At the hospital, Do-sik flirts with In-hae, although she is full of worry for him. At the Shaded Oasis, Hae-won meets Woo-hyeol and asks to see the basement. Although he is unsure at first, Hae-won’s puppy-dog eyes convince him in the end, and he takes her to his room. There, she compliments his room, and they talk about Hae-sun. His explanation finally fills the gaps for Hae-won, and she shares that everything surrounding him feels odd to her. She asks him how they are connected, and Woo-hyeol is hopeful that she finally remembers everything.

However, their conversation is interrupted by In-hae, who looks a bit uncomfortable after seeing the two of them coming out of the basement together. She shows concern for him, but Woo-hyeol, in turn, ends up taking care of her after she shares about her mother’s illness and her relationship with hospitals. Either way, their conversation leaves Woo-hyeol in deep thought, and he meets Sang-hae and Dong-seop to share his thoughts. Rose tells him to think about what In-hae wants in order to get what he wants in return.

Coming back home, Woo-hyeol tries to strike up a deal with In-hae in return for drinking her blood and tells her that he will leave the mansion and leave it entirely to her. However, he doesn’t get the response that he was expecting and instead angers In-hae, who leaves the conversation fuming. The next morning, Manager Koo hands over photos of Woo-hyeol with his friends to Do-sik, who goes to meet the vampire afterwards for some serious questions.

He takes Woo-hyeol by surprise and asks him how long he will stay at the guest house and asks him to leave Shaded Oasis because he doesn’t want him to stay with In-hae. However, Woo-hyeol promises to leave once to leave on his own accord once he gets what he wants, and although Do-sik tells him that he will fulfil his needs, he doesn’t pay heed to his words and leaves.

Meanwhile, Hae-won meets In-hae and asks her to throw a grand party that the former will pay for in order to drive more people to the guest house. However, her real intention is to ask Woo-hyeol out at that party, and she asks for In-hae’s help. Unfortunately, it seems like In-hae is growing a bit jealous of the relationship and is starting to fall for Woo-hyeol herself. At home, Woo-hyeol, too, feels that In-hae is acting differently.

As the day of the party draws near, Woo-hyeol goes to the nearby tailor shop to get a new suit and is stunned to find one waiting for him already. It turns out, In-hae’s father had already made one for him previously and had left it at the shop to be collected by Woo-hyeol! The latter is left confused, wondering what could’ve happened to her father for him to disappear all of a sudden suddenly. Either way, he does tell In-hae about the suit, and she shares how she feels apathy for her father after all the years of waiting for him.

Either way, Woo-hyeol calls in reinforcements the next day to help with the decoration for the party. The happy scenes relieve some of In-hae’s stress as well, and she looks on happily as the four friends laugh and dance together. As everyone gets ready for the party, Woo-hyeol, with Rose’s help, gives In-hae two dresses to choose from for the party. After some heartfelt conversation and a cute outfit change, everyone is ready to party it on.

In the evening, as guests start to arrive, Do-sik looks around at all the guests, wondering who might be a vampire. Either way, both Hae-won and Do-sik try to catch their prospective partner’s eyes, In-hae and Hae-won only have eyes for each other. As Do-sik focuses on the vampires, In-hae and Woo-hyeol have a conversation outside, and she tells him not to leave since having him at the mansion fills her with joy.

Heartbeat Episode 10 Ending

As they go inside the mansion, the crowd demands In-hae join them in dance, and Woo-hyeol takes this opportunity to ask her for a dance, much to Hae-won’s disappointment. As the two dance together, it’s very clear who likes whom; even Yang-nam clocks the two dancing and realises that things are about to get complicated. As the episode comes to an end, Woo-hyeol agrees that he, too, likes the mansion because of her.

Heartbeat Episode 10 Review

Ok, I am so confused about these characters and who feels like what. First of all, I really liked Woo-hyeol and In-hae’s budding romance. It’s not there yet, but you can see it clearly in this episode. And I like it; I like their warm looks and cute gestures. Taecyeon and Ji-an do a good job with their roles, they are awkward but caring for each other, and it feels realistic in the sense that unsure people sometimes need just a bit more time to realise what is happening to them.

However, I must say, even with the “virgin” female lead scenario playing out this season, I wish they did a bit more with In-hae’s character, look-wise. I mean, sure, she definitely doesn’t have makeup and such (and again, realistic) but just, a little something more. The dress seems to be a little ill-fitting and doesn’t fit in with the other dresses. I don’t expect it to be as well done as Hae-won’s, but just a bit more than what we see.

Anyway, coming to Hae-won, I just need to know why it is necessary for her to be this childish persona in front of Woo-hyeol – it doesn’t seem like she’s a bad person in any way, not that we see much of her anyway to form an opinion. But regardless, her character feels a bit half-baked, as if she is there only to confuse us regarding who is Hae-sun’s actual reincarnation. On the other hand, Do-sik’s character needs more time as well. We saw that he is the descendant of the guard that killed Hae-sun and was possibly cursed because of it. However, both of these characters need to be discussed more, especially because we spend so much time with them.

Either way, this love square is going to be an interesting one, and I am interested to see who among the female characters is actually Hae-sun’s reincarnation!

Heartbeat is streaming on Amazon Prime Video in select regions and on KBS2 in Korea.

Netflix’s Teach You a Lesson transforms the controversial webtoon Get Schooled into a fast-paced action drama.
