The Bear Season 2 Ending Explained

This season starts off strong by showing us how Carmy and Sydney are ready to build a full plan when it comes to renovating this place. Carmy is convinced that this place will just need a face-lift. Meanwhile, his partner is convinced that the whole place needs to be revamped completely. The person at the centre of all of this is Nat, also known as Sugar. She is asked to come on as a project manager and handle things outside of the menu that will definitely need her expertise.

In doing so, they figure out that they need to factor in a whole lot of money than they actually have. Going back to square one, they huddle their way to Cicero, who had originally lent Mikey $300,000 and wanted it back. Instead, Carmy goes there with another proposition, asking for another $500,000 extra to build their business back up from scratch, this time with everything set in legality. However, doing that means uncovering secrets like how his brother wanted to burn the place down for insurance money or that there is mold in the walls.

For now, they need to get permits, they need to start working on the menu, they need new hires and cooks to work on the recipes, and most of all, everyone still working here needs to get paid as much as they used to. This Herculean task has a six-month limit so that the restaurant can start making bank at 18 months. But the moment everyone leaves the restaurant, they come back right in, shortening their deadline even more in order to open with a fresh and invigorating perspective.

Obviously, that comes with friction, especially between Carmy and Sydney, who both have extremely big ideas and want to build this restaurant in the way that they want. The lack of communication becomes a sore spot for both of them, leading to even more conflicts in the workplace. Fortunately, Carmy’s ‘I’m Sorry’ tactic works well to move away from the drama and focus on the things they can fix. This still doesn’t assuage the doubts Syd has about Carmy’s contribution. He always seems away, doing something else instead of actually working on things with her.

While she goes to other restaurants trying to figure out what might work in her menu, Carmy is reconnecting with an old flame. They have a lot going on, but the way they make time for each other seems like there is something much more deep-seated than just a normal sense of longing or attraction. Marcus, on the other hand, has been sent to Copenhagen to learn how to make desserts and stage under a chef named Luca. The two of them start out rocky, and the latter is quite stringent on what he required from the chefs in his stead, but the end results are fantastic.

Marus actually learns a lot from him and even develops a friendly relationship, discussing their lightning-in-the-bottle moment for this profession and having a genuine heart-to-heart about what it means to be a chef. Another one on the growth roster is Tina, who has been going to a formal culinary school in order to gain an understanding of what responsibilities she will take as she becomes a sous chef. It becomes clear that she is there to slay while Ebrahim is struggling to come to terms with his inability to cope with the skill.

Tina even manages to make some friends with the other students present in the programme. She is just there to stage and figure things out, but by the time she is back, her big responsibilities seem more like duties now. Taking a break from this growth narrative, we are taken back in time to the Carmy family Christmas, with a bunch of people and the Berzatto mother, Donna, barely making out of this sane. She is unravelling, yelling at her kids, turning this dinner into a horror scene and creating so much chaos that it is unimaginable to see anything else.

Amidst this, we see Richie struggle to get a job, and figure out his life, while Mikey rehashes the same arguments over and over again with his family bringing to light why this entire situation has been so stressful for Carmy. By the end of the episode, we see that Donna ran into the house with a car and effectively ended Christmas that night. Moving on, we see Richie get his own redemption arc. After being sidelined and effectively cursed out of every place, Carmy sends him to stage at one of the biggest restaurants in town.

Starting from the bottom, which means drying the forks, is effectively the lowest of the lows for the character, but his cousin said it, so he must do it. Every day at the brink of dawn, this man goes to the restaurant and shines forks. But he’s there to learn the culture, the hustle it takes in order to make a place so big run. He recognises that it is not just about serving the people there; it is about learning every detail of their relationship with food in order to give them the best experience ever. Richie’s entire relationship with the restaurant changes.

The restaurant is not just other people’s anymore. He also has a say in it now. With Richie in line, everyone has done their level best to elevate their skills and be worthy of the goal of getting a star. All that is left is the fire suppression test, which they have been failing for the past two times. Even Jimmy isn’t optimistic about this plan anymore. They have ten days to open, and the stove still hasn’t been lit. It is all coming down to the last wire.

Everything is taut with tension, but it seems that these two will still be able to fight another day because they finally pass the test after Fak figures out that Mikey had overridden the system in order to let the place burn down. After this crisis is averted, they can actually open the restaurant, and everything seems to be going in order, except, Carmy gets locked into the freezer. Chaos ensues. Another chef is missing, orders are piling in, and things are moving, oh so slowly.

However, on the outside, Richie is handling it on another level. Things are moving smoothly, word of mouth is gaining traction, and people are actually liking the vibe. When he comes back in, he’s got the battle armour on. He takes charge and changes up the whole thing. Gives himself five minutes and gets the ball rolling on the restaurant. Everyone works together to make this day the absolute success that it is, except every character is facing their own crisis, waiting for the next season to reveal it.
