Rafuchakkar Episodes 1 and 2 Review: Conman’s Different Shades Unraveled One By One

Rafuchakkar Episodes 1 and 2 Review: The new crime drama produced by Jio Studios is directed by Ritam Srivastav and written by Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartik Nishandar. The series stars Maniesh Paul as Pawan aka Prince, Priya Bapat as Ritu Arora, Aakash Dahiya as Jaidev, Chahat Vig as Preeti Gogia, and other notable actors like Sushant Singh, Pushkar Priyadarshi, Aksha Pardasany, Rishi Deshpande, etc. Each episode’s runtime is 40 minutes, and every day, an episode will air on Jio Cinema.

Rafuchakkar Plot

Disguising himself as a rich airline guy, athletic gym rat, and such, a con man who mainly targeted women to cheat and defraud money gets arrested. But due to the lack of evidence, the truth stands sealed. Will the courtroom drama prove that Pawan is the scammer and elaborate on why he committed those crimes? Or will the mastermind escape the play?

Rafuchakkar Episodes 1 and 2 Review

A normal man Pawan seems to be not having a very good time with his relatives and family. Just when he calms down, another tragedy befalls him when the cops arrest him at his parent’s wedding anniversary. Fast forward, the viewers get to see the courtroom where Pawan is accused of disguising himself as Ajay Chauhan and swindling 100 million from a member of the parliament. From flashbacks to the present scenario, there isn’t any strong evidence to prove Pawan is the criminal. Just when the case feels stale, something striking happens.

A still from the series “Rafuchakkar”

There have been plenty of movies where men cheat women by disguising themselves as these perfect guys. They particularly target rich women and pack the money away. Similarly, in the first two episodes, it’s clear that this con man is extremely good at observing the scenarios and making use of the vulnerable women.

While watching the series, all I remembered was the Tamil movie saga Naan Avan Illai which literally translates to I Am Not Him. In the flick, the guy marries/dates rich women and swindles their money. In the end, we find him giving all the money for a good deed. If Rafuchakkar follows the same plot where the deceiving Pawan uses the money for a good deed, then there is absolutely nothing special about this series.

So far, the two episodes only covered Ajay Chauhan’s case (one character of Pawan), and we’re yet to know how many figures he has transformed himself into. Thankfully, these unknown characters are the intriguing factor of the series, followed by the question of why he did those crimes. Apart from these two aspects, Rafuchakkar isn’t a unique series.

One part of the plot that I found extremely dumb was how the member of the parliament didn’t do a background check-up on Ajay Chauhan, especially when he was about to become his son-in-law. How can a father not check his soon-to-be son-in-law’s identity but blindly believe his daughter and what the con man himself says? Come on? He is a political figure with lots of power, yet he failed to meet Ajay’s parents or have a look at his home—wow.

Coming to the cast, so far, they’ve been doing their roles well. Maniesh Paul as Pawan/Ajay Chauhan executed his character pretty well. He looked all innocent while playing Pawan and had this uncanny aura of Yash from KGF while playing Ajay Chauhan. Truth be told, ever since Yash brought in the mafia look wearing the coloured tuxedos and animal print shirts, with the long hair and beard, personally to me, no other actor who tries the same style is cutting the standards. I hope costume designers set a new trend for the actors they’re working with.

The dialogues aren’t too bad, but the lame jokes they pass in the courtroom are a thing I believe the writers will avoid in the future. Please, it isn’t funny at all. And why did the prosecutor explain a Venus trap to the honourable judge? In the real world, no advocates will waste their time by speaking metaphorically. Hopefully, the writers will practically write the script.

Final Thoughts

As a person who has watched a similar story about a con artist messing with women and stealing their money, Rafuchakkar is yet another series with the same plot. The two episodes had nothing spectacular or any moment that gave me chills. The suspense isn’t raising my curiosity at all. You can watch the series only to see how it unfolds, but apart from that, there isn’t any wow factor.
