Amazon Prime Video took a big swing with its new Hindi-language web series, and the Jubilee Twitter reactions show that it has not gone to waste. It stars Prosenjit Chatterjee as Srikant Roy, Aditi Rao Hydari as Sumitra Kumari, Aparshakti Khurana as Binod Das, Sidhant Gupta as Jay Khanna, Shweta Basu Prasad as Ratna Das, Ram Kapoor as Shamsher Singh Walia, Wamiqa Gabbi as Niloufer Qureshi, Nandish Singh Sandhu as Jamshed Khan and Sukhame Lamb as Kiran Singh Sethi. The series was created and directed by Vikramaditya Motwane.
The show features the glittery and shiny new India after independence, still coming to terms with lax freedom and bustling crowds. While the riots have made everything a couple of hundred times harder, the Bombay film industry is peeking out of its cocoon. Meanwhile, the lives of actors and talkies owners descend into debauchery. The glimmering facade of the profession hides their pain and traumatic experiences extremely well.
Politics take over the craft, and actors create conflict in order to get their dream roles. In this show, the actor Binod Das commits a crime in order to make himself the lead of the film ‘Sunghursh.’ Jamshed was originally supposed to be the lead in this film, also having a secret affair with Sumitra Kumari, who is the studio owner’s wife. She tries to plot an escape plan, but it all falls apart after this crime takes place. Binod Das is the loyal soldier of Shrikant Roy, who owns Roy Talkies, but this opportunity doesn’t arrive twice, so he puts himself on the line.
The boy auditions for the role and gets it, propelling himself to stardom under the moniker Madan Kumar. Amidst all of this, Jay Khanna tries to make his own film with Madan Kumar in the mix. He’s achieved stardom, but he cannot have it be short-lived. Gambling his career in this film, he decides to join the crew. This is the basic premise of the film, and fans have found solace in this convoluted and complicated story involving too many players.

There are many characters, but the writing seems to have resonated with audiences who are also extremely impressed with the acting prowess the protagonists have exhibited. Moreover, the hyper-nostalgia this show exudes creates a conversation around how we perceived the industry at the time, which most people enjoyed seeing. Even though there is chaos and literal bloodshed, the romanticism of art and craft carries the show to the finish line. So check out these reactions to see what people think of it.
