Unstable Ending Explained: Was Jackson Able To Save His Dad From Being Kicked Out of His Own Company?

After an exciting season of this Netflix comedy series, the Unstable ending explained explores what might come next for the characters. This comedy series stars Rob Lowe, John Owen Lowe, Sian Clifford, Rachel Marsh, Emma Ferreira, Fred Armisen, Aaron Branch, Frank Gallegos, Chris Aquilino, Merrick McCartha, Tom Allen, Brie Eley and JT Parr, alongside other cast members. It is created by Victor Fresco, Rob Lowe and John Lowe, who are also part of the crew as executive producers.

Unstable is about a father and the CEO of a company who tries to grapple with the fact that he isn’t excited about science anymore. Now that his son is back home, he expects some of that love for the craft to bubble up in his chest. The show explores their journey in reconciliation while also showing the importance of giving space to our loved ones.

Unstable Ending Explained

We start by seeing Ellis go to his office after a long day and a zero-motivational morning. His CFO, Anna, comes in and informs that the board is calling a meeting with everyone, and they may want to fire him because he has been acting erratic since his wife’s death. That’s not wrong, but Ellis is really not in the mood to listen to anything like that. He has created his company Dragon from the ground up and is not letting anyone decide whether he’s good enough for it or not.

In order to talk some sense into him and usher him back into the lab, Anna asks the Project Manager, Malcolm, to go and fetch him from New York. Jackson, the son, has been teaching kids how to play the flute in New York and even though he doesn’t want to admit it, he isn’t really enjoying this as much as he would have liked to. Malcolm is trying to ensure that Jackson knows what he will be getting into when he comes home, and he decides to be home for one day.

When Jackson meets his father, he is reminded why he left for New York and didn’t return. Everything that annoys him about his father is coming back. He manages to converse with Ellis and bring him back to work. However, Ellis explains that he has been feeling this sense of listlessness when it comes to work and isn’t inspired to solve problems right now. Even the therapist that was brought in to make a report about Ellis has disappeared.

Even though Jackson was only supposed to stay for one day, he missed his flight when he found out that the therapist was actually in his father’s basement after he kidnapped him. The therapist, Leslie, is not really ‘kidnapped’ per se. He has been living in the basement as a houseguest would, eating rich food, enjoying Ellis’ company and being altogether partnered in the house. Leslie’s wife has left him and was looking for a place to stay anyways, so this was an interesting arrangement.

This is still a salvageable situation because nothing has gone wrong just yet and can be de-prioritised for the moment. The big looming aspect is the concrete project on which Ruby and Luna work extremely hard. They’re the two scientists assigned to this who have been working tirelessly to figure out a solution, especially when the board is on their backs looking for a stellar progress report. Ellis has added to the drama by inviting a Times reporter to do another feature on the company.

There have been so many things going on that he is rendered a fool on the cover page and a laughingstock in his own community. Anna is trying to make the best out of the worst situation and has even threatened a few people to back from kicking him out of the company. The twins, who are hellbent on calling the cops and making this situation worse, have currently stepped aside, especially after Ellis threw them a birthday party.

However, it all comes down to Jean, Ellis’ best friend and Leslie, who are coming forward in front of the board to expose the fact that his behaviour was so erratic that he kidnapped a therapist and kept him in the house for days. However, Leslie can be easily bought and keeps his mouth shut while Jean is still trying to remove Ellis as CEO. Jackson tries his level best to turn the board members over to his dad’s side. He feels extremely guilty because he told Jean his father kidnapped Leslie, the therapist.

Before any of this happens, though, Ellis storms into the conference room and shows them a brick made up of reused carbon dioxide from the atmosphere that can trap the gasses for centuries, giving the planet enough time to come up with better solutions. It’s not all over yet. Before returning to the board meeting, he went to Jean’s house and blew up her car, giving birth to some fresh new drama that could be explored next season. Additionally, Malcolm and his assertiveness, while Luna and Jackson’s relationships are also something the next season could dig into if they were greenlit for one.
