This Turkish series on Netflix tries to tackle the mother-daughter relationship in an intense drama-thriller. The Who Were We Running From reactions show that fans thoroughly enjoy it. Based on the 2007 novel by Perihan Madenb, this show is directed by Umut Aral and Gökçen Usta.
This mysterious series is also called Biz Kimden Kaçiyorduk Anne? and stars Melisa Sözen, Eylül Tumbar, Musa Uzunlar, Birand Tunca, Jessica Rookeward, Isik Naz Özedgü, Basak Dasman, Hakan Emre Unal, Devrim Kabacaoglu, Alper Çankaya and Meriç Rakalar, alongside other cast members. Cengiz Deveci and Irfan Sahin join as producers, while Burak Kanbir and Gözde Koyuncu join the crew as cinematographers.
Who Were We Running From starts off by showing the mother and daughter enjoying luxurious hotel rooms and their amenities. However, the plot thickens as the mother keeps killing people when they hurt her daughter. Now, they’re on the run from the law, but they have been running even before all of this happened. The daughter, Bambi, has a lot of questions about this, and the constant state of running is one that she is most curious about.
The mother is not ready to answer them because her traumatic childhood constantly catches up to her, and all she can do is roll with the punches. She remembers how her mother used to expect her to be the perfect version of a woman, and when that didn’t happen, she was usually met with a barrage of harsh insults. There was never any love or protection in the house. When she becomes pregnant, the rest of the family is put off.
So, she runs away with the child and has been on the run ever since. But the new problems also involve the police officers, and now more people are looking for the duo. Even through all of this, the mother keeps up her criminal streak, protecting her daughter from all the dangers around them. At one point, they lost so much money that the duo had to live in Youth Hostels, buying street food and making minimal payments in general. A stark contrast to the way the show started.

However, the mother obviously wants her daughter to have a good life, so they plan to rob a store and use the money to move into a new hotel room. While the mother is gone, Bambi dreams of a scenario where her mother is deeply hurt and might die, as the character in her favourite book does. Meanwhile, the mother is back home, and she is hurt but not dead. Bambi cleans her mother up, and the two of them pack all of their stuff to run away.
Before they can make their great escape, the police officers catch up to them, and the mother is shot with a rifle that would leave an explosive exit wound, giving her no room to survive. Bambi gives the police officers the slip and is never seen again. This ending is what made most fans lose their minds because of how sad it is. Others are talking about how the show is addictive and keeps them hooked till the end.
