Who Were We Running From Plot/Synopsis

The show follows these two women who are mother and daughter, making their way across different hotel rooms and staying there every night instead of staying at home. The trailer starts off by showing us the daughter making sense of what her mother is doing in the hotel. She explains how her mother uses the analogy that homes are just like prisons but smaller, like they would be trapped if they were to live in a house like normal people do.

In the next shot, we see the duo walking down an extremely luxurious hallway, making their way to the room surrounded by bellhops and room service workers escorting them. She adds that they don’t have a physical home per se because they have a home with each other. The daughter explains that one day she will be set free by her mother. She wholeheartedly believes in her mother, but the visuals show that maybe this trust is crumbling, and things are getting tense between the two people in the house.

The mother has started to exhibit some dangerous tendencies and is even skilled at using sharp objects and weapons. It seems that even though the mother may set her daughter free, the youngin doesn’t seem to want to go anywhere. There are many questions the daughter cannot ask, and there are many things she cannot say out into the wild. We are shown different visuals ranging from an abruptly ending party to the mother smoking a cigarette and, finally, the daughter removing her wig to reveal something similar underneath.

She finally explains that they are running from someone, and all of these are just attempts to escape from something dangerous that might happen to them. We see the duo actually running from something and trying to find their way out of a sticky situation. The different visual montages do nothing but increase curiosity for what the duo is running from and whether the threat is even real or something made up in order to exert control over her child.

We finally hear the voice of the mother giving the daughter some well-meaning advice about the people in the world and how they perceive weakness, especially when it comes to women who are just trying to make it in life. The mother seems to be a mysterious figure that is exuding some sinister energy, like she could keep her daughter next to her and would lie, scream, shout and do anything to keep it that way.
