Poker Face Episode 9 Review
The latest instalment of Poker Face introduces us to a new eccentric character, Trey (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who sticks to his mundane and repetitive routine, without leaving his property in the mountains (even for a second). Moreover, the reason behind his compact and closed life lies behind his ankle tag, which represents a mark of his criminal past.
One night, after a heavy storm blizzard, Trey gets the opportunity to escape his house arrest without risking the possibility of getting caught by his parole officer. Moreover, the escape attempt leads him into even more trouble, as he trades paths with none other than Charlie. Thereby leading to a domino effect of mystery and conclusions.

Trey’s strict adherence to his repetitive routine, fueled by a secretive yet evident criminal past, immediately sets him apart from the other characters. Even though Trey has a purpose, the very prospect of his freedom ends up as an ironic hunch. Notably, his desire to escape his house arrest after a heavy snowstorm is the catalyst for the events that follow into a mind-bending tale of intrigue and suspense.
The tension between the titular characters is ever-growing, as they both have their own secrets and motives that are slowly revealed throughout the episode. The mystery and suspense build as they traverse through the aftermath of the incident, trying to survive the night inside the Motel.

The writing in this episode is in absolute rhythm, as it weaves together the different plot threads and characters in a way that keeps us guessing until the very end. Moreover, there are several moments that take us by surprise, without becoming cliche or overcooked. The use of interconnected storylines reveals Trey’s unusual approach and adds depth and complexity to his character, making him more than just a one-dimensional criminal.
The acting front in this episode is exceptional, with Rian’s longtime collaborator Joseph Gordon-Levitt bringing a unique energy and presence to his role. His interactions with Charlie are electric, as they both play off each other’s strengths and vulnerabilities.
The cinematography in this episode is also noteworthy, as it captures the desolate and snowy landscape in a way that adds to the tension and atmosphere. The use of frame setting itself adds a character of its own, which binds you thoroughly with the story.
Final Thoughts

All in all, the entire instalment is as good as its initial setting. And picks up really well with the eventual reveal in the end. Moreover, Joseph Gordon-Levitt adds a layer of fresh excitement to the episode with his top-notch acting prowess.
