Physical 100 Episode 8 Review: The Toughest Semi-Final Battle Begins!

Physical 100 Episode 8’s mission raises the tension as only a limited number of contestants will proceed to the finale. As soon as the first sub-mission starts, the contestants’ anxiety hikes. Featuring 100 contestants, Physical 100 is Netflix’s first-ever Korean survival game show where only one winner will get the title of “perfect body” and take home the grand prize of 300 million Korean won.

The official Netflix description of the show reads,

ONE HUNDRED CONTESTANTS IN TOP PHYSICAL SHAPE COMPETE IN A SERIES OF GRUELING CHALLENGES TO CLAIM THE HONOR — AND CASH REWARD — AS THE LAST ONE STANDING.

As said, there are 100 contestants, and some of the notable members are Cha Hyun-seung, Choo Sung-hoon, Ovan, Kang Han, Yang Hak-seon, Miracle, Yun Sung-bin, Ye-hyun, Ma Sun-ho, Jang Eun-sil, Jo Jin-hyeong, Shin Dong-guk, Dustin Nippert, Lee Dae-won, Chun-ri, Hong Boem-seok, Choi Hyun-mi, Tarzan, Kkang Mi, Kim Sang-wook, BBulkup, Florian, Austin Kang, Dawon, Lee Miho, Agent H and Shin Bomire.

In episode 8, there are five sub-quests. From each of the four teams, one member must participate. As per the rules, only one will directly reach the finale in each sub-quest. The episode starts off with the first sub-round, where the contestants have to lift a huge 50kg ball on their necks. One of the female contestants struggles to lift it up, but her intention behind choosing this mission will touch your heart. After almost an hour and a half, the first sub-round goes. When the round ended, the last remaining contestant moved ahead.

Similarly, the other contenders competed in the remaining sub-quests. However, the sad part is that most contestants will be sent home. In fact, my favourite participants got eliminated, but they honestly gave their best shot. Speaking of the participants, in one round, a contestant surprised the crowd with his agility. He ran extremely fast, leaving the others way behind him.

The Game Plans and Set Design

The rules are simple, but the game plans aren’t. Honestly, this episode really is a heartbreaker because so many contestants are eliminated. Even your favourite ones might depart, so be prepared. In my opinion, if only the contestants were given tasks where they’re skilled, everyone would have given their best. However, for some participants, none of the tasks appealed well.

One fantastic aspect of this episode is the game ideas, the set and the contenders. Speaking of the game, implementing Greek myth is a fantastic idea. The set designed for the rounds looks amazing and straight out of a movie. Notably, through this quest, many participants who weren’t on the mainframe in the previous episodes shined! For example, the ice climber expert’s skills will be profoundly seen in one of the sub-quests in which he takes part.

The games aren’t just about strength but also need mind control. In the upcoming finale, only a tiny number of contestants with complete control over their bodies and minds will compete. Finally, the last one remaining will take home the grand prize. Hopefully, the best one wins.

Physical 100 Episode 8 Final Thoughts

This episode is a little sad because so many talented people are eliminated after all the efforts they’ve put in so far. Some contestants whom I expected for the final, failed in the tasks. Nevertheless, the remaining contestants also are noteworthy. The semi-final quest is brutal, and I wonder how nerve-wracking the final mission will be.
