Idris Elba is back, ladies, gentlemen and my gender non-conforming folks. Luther The Fallen Sun trailer is here and the acclaimed character is back for another adventure and this time it is happening in a film. The film will star Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo, and Andy Serkis in lead protagonists and antagonist roles. While they will be joined by Jess Liaudin, Lauryn Ajufo, Dermot Crowley, Natasha Patel, Henry Hereford, and Ruth Wilson, among others. It is written by Neil Cross and directed by Jamie Payne.
Luther The Fallen Sun will serve as a continuation to the original television universe that the character was initially a part of. However, Luther is in prison when the trailer begins. There is a new threat coming to town and it is much bigger than anyone can image. In the guilt that he was unable to catch this psychopath terrorising Britain, he decides to escape prison. A blood brawl and chaos ensues but he is able to give law enforcement the slip.

Now, Luther must choose whether to join the police once again to solve the crime or do everything by himself. His promises were left unfulfilled and the victim’s relatives have made it clear that their children have been put through something horrible and the man doing this is not in his right mind. In a conversation with his cop partner, he explains that he is still a cop, but she vehemently refuses. Going as far as telling him that Tactical Unit will shoot him dead if they see him anywhere near this case.
We see Andy Serkis’ character for the first time, slick, well-groomed. A real Lloyd Hansen energy emanates from this man. He decides to psychologically taunt Luther, using his crumbling sense of self against him. It riles up the cop enough for him to almost stick a tattoo needle in his eye. But Luther knows this man, he knows his tendencies. Serkis’ character is a meticulous planner who has everything in line and the way it needs to be executed. Like any good seriel killer story, the murderer is always two steps ahead.

The killer is taunting them, making grand announcements and using crime to paint a nightmare. We see bludgeoned prisoners who have lost their identities, patients who have been injured beyond repair and people who have lost their only purpose. Luther has to brave harsh weather conditions, breaking wind and some intense staredowns from the British law enforcement before he can do what he does best.
Luther is ready to make the choices others are not able to make, he can live with the consequences of his actions. This is his thirteenth reason, his one purpose and only thing that will alleviate his guilt. Through the rubble of all his past mistakes, he has to rise to the occasion and take the risk that he might die at the end of this. The questions we are now left with are, why is there such detailed fanfare for this seriel killer? What has Luther got to do with this man? How will he catch the killer and will his victims find justice?
