Still From Urusei Yatsura

Episode 16 is here, and we are back again with another review. This episode opens with Ataru and his gang, including Lum, Shinobu, and Mendo, going to the beach to have some fun. But reaching there, they see how the ocean is acting tremendously violent, and there is literally no one there other than them. It is clear that they will not be able to swim, and they ponder upon what to do.

That is when a weird parent-child duo rushes towards the sea and easily gets splashed by the high waves. They then start to fight amongst themselves without giving any explanation. It is only later when Ataru and his friends intervene, we find out that these two run a restaurant by the beach. But sadly, they do not get any customers because of the extreme weather surrounding the ocean.

Ryuunosuke, who is the next inheritor of the shop, is not at all interested in it and wants to change professions. But the father refuses to accept it and even forces Ryuunosuke to be a man and accept his fate.

That is when Ryuunosuke screams at his father and reveals that he is actually a girl who was raised as a boy so that she can inherit the store. She was never given the choice to live like a woman, and now she does not want anything to do with the shop anymore.

Ataru and his friends try to help them mend their relationship, but that does not work, and they both move to get a new job after their shop collapses because of their antics. Surprisingly, this new job is to look after the supply store of Ataru’s school. Ryuunosuke becomes happy thinking that she can finally wear the coveted sailor uniform, but again she is unable to wear it because of her father’s stubbornness.

There is also another section where Ryuunosuke becomes enamoured with Ran and decides to be friends with her so that she can teach her how to become a proper woman. But as Ryuunosuke wears men’s clothes, Ran thinks she is a boy, and she wants to be her boyfriend.

Verdict

I liked the comedy in this episode better than in many of the previous episodes. The first half was definitely bizarre and confusing, but it slowly picks up the pace and delivers some hilarious punch lines after some time. Watch the anime on HIDIVE if you haven’t yet.
