Each GOT7 member is fleshing out his case of artistry, and January 18, 2023, is reserved for Jinyoung’s sweet love, like Cotton Candy. The jazzy-pop-sounding tune dropped along with its music video on YouTube a few hours ago, and it’s nothing short of a mini coming-of-age movie. The standalone album is the South Korean singer’s first solo album, aside from his other OST releases and individual tracks released under the umbrella of his K-pop group.
With all seven members currently pursuing their paths in the industry, Jinyoung’s debuting album comprises five songs – Animal, Cotton Candy, Our Miracle, Sleep Well and Letter. The second entry on the tracklist, the titular song, was composed by the singer himself, and he also contributed to the lyric-writing process for the same. Additionally, Distract, and Ludwig Lindell also joined him for its composition.

The video’s beginning posits the singer/actor in what looks like a dorm room as a cloud stays atop to give him company. His friends soon join in, but he seems to be consumed by the thoughts of love. Then, the cloud becomes a pictorial representation of the ever-soaring love of those who continuously support him throughout his projects.
He glides through the institution’s corridors, and the ever-presence of this cloud consoles him. Eventually initiating the smooth dance choreography, which has Jinyoung’s panache and elegance written all over it (especially since we know that he used to choreograph some bits for GOT7’s dance routines as well), the scenes look like they’ve been pulled out of a heartwarming romantic comedy film. Like the song’s title, the melody, too, quickly melts with our senses, making the song-listening experience even more gratifying and euphonious.

Since the group’s collective hiatus kicked in following the last release of their self-titled album in 2022, Jinyoung’s been at the beck and call of one or the other acting opportunity, and his growth in the arena is heavily exhibited in the video too. Looking like the star he is, his charming aura takes charge of the scene like a rom-com hero. The scenic warmth of the MV is like a warm hug in this cold weather, while the artist’s sweet-sounding, mellow and soft vocals transport us to a carefree and blissful daydream. The final ensemble dance scene is almost synonymous with a radiant prom scene, which brings the video to its close with Jinyoung’s debonair composure.
