Robert Downey Jr Responds to Quentin Tarantino’s MCU Remark, Says “There’s Enough Room For Everything”

Robert Downey Jr, who is popularly known as Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has now responded to the controversial remarks made by some famous directors. Recently, Quentin Tarantino said that some of the actors who are playing iconic superhero roles are not stars themselves. Even director Martin Scorsese had previously commented about Marvel movies, saying they are not cinema.

While fans of the Marvel franchise have heavily defended against these remarks, in a recent Deadline interview, the character who is credited to be the initiator of this universe, Iron Man aka Robert Downey Jr was asked about his views on the matter. The actor talked about how the industry has changed significantly over the years.

He further commented, “I think that we are in a time and place that I unwittingly contributed to, where IP has taken precedence over principle and personality. But it’s a double-edged sword. A piece of IP is only as good as the human talent you get to represent it, and you can have some great IP even if it’s coming from an auteur or a national treasure of a writer-director, and if you don’t have the right kind of artist playing that role, you’ll never know how good it could have been.”

He thinks that creatively it is a waste of time to be at war with ourselves because everything is so much more fragmented now and people love to throw stones ‘one way or the other.’ He believes we should give everything a fair chance and says, “We’re all a community. There’s enough room for everything, and thank God for Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of Water. That’s all I have to say. We need the big stuff to make room for films like Armageddon Time.”

Currently, the actor is promoting his latest film Sr. as an executive producer, where Robert Downey Jr. pays tribute to his late father in this documentary chronicling the life and eclectic career of pioneering filmmaker Robert Downey Sr. This biographical documentary is available to watch on Netflix.

Lastly, talking about current film industry trends, he quotes Favreau and expresses how filmmakers used to try to make waves in a lake, and now they are just trying to catch people’s attention as things are moving by quickly in a stream. Trends keep on changing and Downey Jr believes that it will change again. This is the demand of current times and it’s best to accept it and be grateful that we get to participate, this is the right place to start.
