Christmas With You Review: A Cheesy Rom-Com Without the Holiday Miracle

Netflix’s latest holiday movie Christmas With You bring you a cheesy romantic comedy with old-school jokes and less of the season feels. Directed by Gabriela Tagliavini, the film is written by Paco Farias, Jennifer C. Stetson and German Michael Torres, the film stars Aimee Garcia, Freddie Prinze Jr, Deja Monique Cruz, Gabriel Sloyer, Lawrence J. Hughes, Zenzi Williams, and Nicolette Stephanie Templier, alongside other cast members.

Christmas With You brings the story of a pop star who escapes to a small town while going through a bad phase in her career. While she goes there to surprise a fan, life has an even bigger surprise for her that could change her life and career.

Netflix’s synopsis of the film reads-

Aimee Garcia and Freddie Prinze Jr make beautiful music- and Christmas magic- in a warm and cozy rom-com about a pop star who falls for a widowed dad.

Aimee Gracia and Freddie Prinze Jr’s latest holiday film Christmas With You is a romantic comedy that brings us a light watch that is perfect when you need something playing in the background because this movie has some tunes that will create a festive mood. The entertainer may not scream the holiday season out loud but it will give you a nice watch.

Christmas With You brings the story of a pop star who starts to feel irrelevant as her record label starts focusing on the new star, so what’s the best way to get over this? Go to visit a fan who will let you know that you are an important person somewhere. And like this, the wish of young Christina comes true and she even finds the chance to be part of the change that her father is to experience from this.

I have to say, the story has got some interesting bits and characters like Christina whose jolly and free-spirited vibes really steal our hearts, and not to forget her abuela (grandmother) who is no less when it comes to being free-spirited. This brings me to the Latin American atmosphere in the film that will confuse you because there are no English subtitles when there is a conversation taking place in the language.

Quite a disappointment because it sometimes makes you feel like you are missing out on something important which is not what you want to feel when watching a Christmas movie. And coming to this point, the film is a good rom-com when it comes to the story, however, the holiday miracle is clearly missing in this film.

All we get is that it is the holidays and the singer needs a Christmas song which she finds lying in front of her after her spur-of-a-moment decision to visit her fan. That is all you will get, no Ho Ho Ho’s or Christmas carols but there are some gifts being opened in the end which will make you think -why.

And if all this was not enough then the chemistry between Gracia and Prinze is really lacking and a huge disappointment because those sparks are really not flying. It is just somehow existing, though when it comes to their scene with Christina (Deja Monique Cruz), there is a change in the aura surrounding them and you sigh because this is what should have existed between the lead couple.

Summing Up: Christmas With You

The film is like going on a date with was nice and comfortable but there are no sparks flying or bells ringing because this isn’t the one. It is when you find a distant friend or acquaintance whom you would smile at when passing by each other.
