In Ticket to Paradise, David and Georgia are divorced for 2 decades and have a daughter named Lily. They meet at Lily’s graduation night. Before starting her career as a lawyer, Lily decides to take a vacation to Bali with her friend Wren. In Bali, she meets a boy name Gede, and they fall in love. A month later, Lily drops a bomb on her parents that she wants to marry Gede and settle in Bali.

David and Georgia, who can’t stand each other reunite to stop their daughter from getting married. They don’t want Lily to repeat the mistake they committed at an early age. Will David and Georgia succeed in sabotaging their daughter’s wedding? We get to know everything in this rushed but beautiful trip to Bali.

Ticket to Paradise Movie Review: Discussion

In the first 10 minutes, writers Ol Parker and Daniel Pipski have established how David and Georgia hate each other. Despite being away and divorced for years, the ex-couple can’t help but taunt and bring each other down. They often remind each other and the viewers how their marriage immediately after graduation was a big mistake.

Hence, it is natural that their first reaction to their recently graduated daughter’s decision to marry is shock instead of joy. David and Georgia make you laugh with their petty fights and taunts. But they make you laugh harder when they team up to stop the wedding.

Ticket to Paradise 1

The screenplay is simple, emotional and funny. I enjoyed watching the ex-couple’s dislikeness towards each other so much that I didn’t care to know why they got separated. However, when the reason was revealed, it had no emotional impact. Maybe, the writing was weak, or the makers didn’t want to make the plot too sad.

Ticket to Paradise has struck a good balance with its humorous and sentimental scenes. However, the former has the upper hand, and I have no complaints. I enjoyed every moment, every joke, every one-liner. I loved the chemistry between David and Georgia in every scene.

The movie is majorly set in Bali as Gede resides there. However, the real locations are different places in Queensland, Australia. Every scene is breathtaking on screen. Cinematographer Peter Lambert has beautifully captured the mesmerising beauty of the vast blue sea, the dense greenery and the pretty sunsets. I couldn’t get enough of how picturesque every frame looked whenever there was a scene by the sea or in the forest.

Actors George Clooney and Julia Roberts are hands down the best part of Ticket to Paradise. The duo is hilarious and entertaining together. Both the actors have such a great comedic time and amazing chemistry. Kaitlyn Dever and Maxime Bouttier’s Lily and Gede are a young, sweet couple, madly in love.

Ticket to Paradise 2

While we don’t see a lot of romantic chemistry between the two, they charm you with their good looks. They have lots of scenes with the fantastic George and Julia, and the duo delivers a good performance. Actor Billie Lourd and Lucas Bravo mainly add to the random humour in the story. However, I feel bad for the Emily in Paris actor’s character Paul.

Ticket to Paradise Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, it’s indeed a Ticket to Paradise, thanks to all the beautiful locations, beautiful people, fun, emotions and a memorable experience. We get to see the simple and vibrant Bali culture, despite the movie being shot in a different country. There’s never a dull moment. It’s a rom-com that should be on your watch list this month.

The movie releases in theatres on October 6. Book your tickets here.
