The Patient Episode 4: Company

In the last episode of The Patient, we saw how Sam’s impulse made him drag in the restaurant owner who is fixated on killing. The Patient Episode 4 picks up moments later with Alan having a moment of panic knowing that a person has been held captive. As the episode progresses, Sam seeks Alan’s advice on how to control his killing impulse but, it almost feels like an impossible task.

On coming to mutual terms by cracking a deal, Sam is able to sideline his hostage from his eyesight, which is when we get to know the new person in captive at Sam’s house is a person named Ellias. Alan and Ellias crack up a conversation every now and then during Sam’s absence from beyond the door separating them.

But as time passes, Sam’s hunger to kill seems to be getting the better of him. Even Alan’s demeanour is shaken as he tries to direct Sam away from his killing urge. But, how long will the game of stalling go until someone’s hand is red with blood?

The Patient Episode 4 is the epitome of chaos that offers you the right amount of intrigue and suspense. The way the episode opens is indicative of how it will not be slow-paced but, rather will have elements of panic and chaos welling up from time to time. The particular segment where we see Alan offer Sam therapy through a phone session in the presence of Candace almost feels like a do-or-die situation, which we can presume is what it might feel like for Alan all the time.

As we have been hearing about Sam’s father for some time now, an exposition in regard to the same seems long overdue. In The Patent Episode 4, we come so close to knowing about Sam’s father but, ultimately the information conveyed does not really meet up the expectations. It feels like the makers are playing a different game with us, all together, trying to keep the important revelations at the bay as our curiosities eat us up.

The rapport between Alan and Ellias is uncanny but, still natural in the way that they two can relate to each other without really knowing each other. It was also the episode where we get to see Sam outside Alan’s eyes and it was somewhat insightful in getting to know his character full fledgedly.

The Patient Episode 4: Final Thoughts

Overall, The Patient Episode 4 did a good job of keeping us engaged till the last moment. Breaking its streak of cliffhangers, this episode took a rather sad and soft musical turn at the end, which might be appreciated by some of the viewers while others might think of it as irrelevant. The acting game by the actors is a complete ace in this series and, so far, our two protagonists have been shining through.
