Hulu’s Not Okay is written and directed by Quinn Shephard, who is best known for her psychological drama Blame. The film is produced by Makeready and stars Zoey Deutch as the protagonist Danni Sanders, along with Dylan O’Brien as Colin, Mia Isaac as Rowan, Embeth Davidtz as Judith, Karan Soni as Kevin, Brennan Brown as Harold, Nadia Alexander as Harper, Tia Dionne Hodge as Linda, Negin Farsad as Susan, Sarah Yarkin as Julie and Dash Perry as Larson.
With a runtime of 100 minutes, the film revolves around a misguided woman Danni, who fakes a trip to Paris in sheer desperation to make friends and get recognition on social media. The retreat she fakes coincides with a real-life terrorist attack in the city making the harrowing incident a part of Danni’s imaginary trip. She fabricates the already assumed lie of being a survivor at this event and uses it to gain popularity, both in reel and real life. But with the swift rise in her fame comes along some unseen downfall that makes her bait for the cancel culture.
The film flaunts some excellent performances from Deutch and Isaac. It also features Dylan O’Brien in a rather unique role that has taken aback everyone. Twitter has been blowing up since the movie’s release, making it one of the top trends of the day.
