-Extraordinary Attorney Woo Episode 6 Recap Contains Spoilers-

Extraordinary Attorney Woo episode 6 begins with a North Korean mother leaving her daughter in the orphanage as she may have to go to prison. The public interest case of this woman, Gye Hyang-sim is held by attorney Choi Soo-yeon and Jung Myung-seok sends Woo Young-woo to this case because Choi Soo-yeon seems too passionate about this case. Woo Young-woo goes to meet her and is taken to meet the defendant in a detention camp.

The three meet and soon begin to discuss the case. Gye Hyang-sim tells them that a five years back when she had fled to South Korea, she was to get some debt money from a North Korean defector broker but she was told that her money was with a woman named Lee Sun-yeong. The debt was passed on to her and she was supposed to pay Gye Hyang-sim and Kim Jeong-hui the money. However, the two wanted to seem tough when they went to take the money from the woman and ended up being misunderstood by the police. While Kim Jeong-hui got sentenced at that time for injury resulting from robbery, Gye Hyang-sim fled from the trial to raise her daughter for a few years.

Now, she surrendered herself to the police while putting her daughter in the orphanage so that she can start a new life with her daughter after serving prison time. She asks if she could serve four years like her friend but Woo Young-woo is not ready to accept this and wants to fight for probation for Gye Hyang-sim. Jung Myung-seok is surprised by Woo Young-woo’s new founded passion but tells the two that the least prison time they can plead for is 3 years and 6 months while demanding probation requires less than 3 years of prison time. He then points out other details which are objected to by the two and they are ready to prepare themselves for the case.

The two then go to the public defender who was in charge of the case four years back to discuss the case, during which Choi Soo-yeon shows him the pictures of the assault on the woman. He then mentions that the doctor’s diagnosis plays an important role in these cases and the doctor seemed biased against the North Korean defectors. He also shows the two an article that the doctor wrote after the trial. They then go to Lee Sun-yeong’s house with Lee Jun-ho but witness a woman being assaulted by a man at the house. The landlord informs Lee Jun-ho that it has been like this for five years while Choi Soo-yeon is unable to talk to the woman.

During the trial, Choi Soo-yeon questions the victim about her current and previous injuries but she doesn’t give her a proper answer. Later the victim even denies remembering the incident from five years back which frustrates Gye Hyang-sim and results in the judge deciding to not have the two in the courtroom at the same time. After a short break, Woo Young-woo is brought out to question the doctor who diagnosed the victim five years back. She is able to prove that the doctor is biased against North Korean defectors and brings the jury to their side.

However, at Hanbada, Jung Myung-seok’s peer yells at him for bringing the doctor to the witness stand who is an executive of the Group of Righteous Doctors. The group was his client worth billions that were lost because of this trial. After he leaves Jung Myung-seok tells the two to continue working hard on the case and leave the matter to him as it was his fault. The two take Gye Hyan-sim’s daughter to meet her, but looking at the reunion Woo Young-woo drifts off to the memory of when she was the only one without a mom.

The next day at the court, Woo Young-woo puts forth a North Korean law which doesn’t punish robbery of one’s own property as severely as the South Korean law and states that the defendant thought that her actions were acceptable due to this. While she was able to put forth a convincing argument, things go downhill when Gye Hyang-sim doesn’t reply to the judge in a way that can save her. Woo Young-woo is not ready to give up and remembers that there is still hope, however, the judge and jury have already left for the verdict and they can’t appeal anymore. But she is not ready to give up and goes to meet the judge outside the courtroom, telling him that while she was charged for injury due to robbery there wasn’t anything stolen. While she tries to plead with him, the judge refuses to have another hearing and sends them away.

However, the judge sentenced Gye Hyan-sim to 3 years probation and 80 hours of community service for the reason that she had confessed to her crimes even after five years. Extraordinary Attorney Woo Episode 6 Review

New case and more whale facts. Today’s episode showed the difficulties and the bias that North Korean defectors have to face when they enter South Korea. We also saw that while our protagonist is a genius, she too is a rookie who can make mistakes and is not always the one saving the day. Sometimes we forget that a protagonist is also someone capable of making mistakes like a normal person, maybe because of the way we see them during the first few episodes or the influence of other shows. But, Woo Young-woo has shown that she too is a normal rookie and some things can only be learnt through time and experience rather than being a book genius.

Our protagonist is a rookie both in the court and in love, and I can see Lee Jun-ho having a hard time conveying his feelings in the future. It is relieving to see him accepting his feeling for Woo Young-woo and I’m expecting some very heart-warming romantic scenes in the upcoming episodes.

Another thing that I’m looking forward to is Woo Young-woo coming face to face with Tae Soo-mi. With Woo Young-woo mentioning being abandoned by her mother and then later slightly brushing past Tae Soo-mi, right after a scene showing their similar habits is definitely pointing towards one direction. Can you guess their relationship?
