Dangerous Liaisons Ending Explained: What Happens to Tristan and Celene?

Netflix’s 2022 movie Dangerous Liaisons is based on the 1782 novel of the same name by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. It is directed by Rachel Suissa with an adapted screenplay by Suissa and Slimane-Baptiste Berhoun. The cast features  Paola Locatelli as Celene, Simon Rérolle as Tristan, Ella Pellegrini as Vanessa, Aymeric Fougeron as Pierre, Alexis Michalik as Christophe amongst others.

The film, which is surely a swirl of Cruel Intentions in the age of social media, impressed a lot of people. The French project did tell the same old story of the book smart Celene falling for the bad boy Tristan with evil social media queen bee Vanessa playing a cruel game on Celene’s feelings altogether. However, the ending was a pleasant surprise by not being as tragic as one would remember from the book.

So what happens by the end of Dangerous Liaisons (2022)? Do Celene and Tristan end up together or do they part ways? Let us find out!

Dangerous Liaisons Ending Explained

During the final moments of the film, we see Tristan go through his essential transformation to realize that he is in love with Celene. He discloses the fact to Vanessa and also adds that he will be calling off their fake relationship. This threatens Vanessa into blackmailing Tristan into breaking up with Celene or else losing his everything as she would disclose the secrets between them.

Tristan tries to protect Celene but, his gesture is a hurtful one as he breaks up with Celene on stage, followed by an evil Vanessa sprinkling salt over Celene’s wounded heart by revealing to her that her relationship with Tristan was all founded on a bet. However, Vanessa goes further down the dark lane to sensationalize the entire incident by posting an Instagram story stating that Tristan is her boyfriend, who cheated on her with Celene.

The tragic representation on social media earns her followers, applause and sympathy. But, the entire thing is short-lived as Tristan soon releases a clip of Vanessa where she is seen hating on her followers. Tristan also confesses that their relationship was a rather fake one from the very beginning. This sways the crowd in another direction and everyone turns against Vanessa.

Meanwhile, Celene is a bystander in all these incidents as she is deeply hurt by Tristan’s betrayal. However, after witnessing everything she forgives Tristan and gives their relationship a new chance to bloom. So, by the end of Dangerous Liaisons, Tristan and Celene end up together.
