Elvis which is a musical drama film, directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Austin Butler as Elvis Presley, with Tom Hanks, Helen Thomson, Richard Roxburgh and many others, is finally having a theatrical release on 24 June.

The biopic project was first announced in 2014 but only in 2019 was it confirmed. In biographical dramas about musicians, there’s always some behind-the-scenes drama, stories of addiction and moments of tragedy and triumph, making them interesting to watch. Fans are always curious to know their idols behind their celebrity persona and these biopics give us that sneak peek.

Rocketman (2019)

Rocketman is an epic musical fantasy about the incredible story of Elton John’s breakthrough years. The film follows the journey of transformation from shy piano prodigy Reginald Dwight into international superstar Elton John. This inspirational story is set to Elton John’s most beloved songs and performed by actor Taron Egerton. What makes the film special is that it tells the universally relatable story of how a small-town boy became one of the most iconic figures in pop culture.

Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

Bohemian Rhapsody is a film that celebrates the legendary band Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury. The film shows the meteoric rise of the band as they experiment with their music and create iconic songs.

They were the most successful bands in the world, but Freddie’s pursuit of a solo career hampered the group and wasn’t much success for himself. But after much trouble, he managed to reunite with his bandmates just in time for Live Aid. While bravely facing an AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the most outstanding performances in the history of rock music. Walk The Line (2005)

Walk the Line is a biographical musical romantic drama film based on the life of Johnny Cash. The film follows Cash’s early life, his romance with June Carter, his ascent in the country music scene, and his struggle with drug addiction. It stars Joaquin Phoenix as Cash, Reese Witherspoon as Carter, Ginnifer Goodwin as Cash’s first wife Vivian Liberto and others.

The screenplay is based on the two autobiographies by the singer and you might have heard his song Man in Black, at least once, which revolutionized his music and forged his legacy as a genuine American icon. You can watch the film on Amazon Prime Video.
