The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 11 Review: Nonsensical Conveniences

Naofumi and Raphtalia have reunited as The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 11 sees Raphtalia become a hero just like Naofumi. Surely that would be mentioned more than in passing in this series? Let’s find out in this review!

The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 11 Overview

The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 11 Title

The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 or Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari Season 2 is an action, adventure, drama, fantasy, and most importantly, isekai anime that serves as the sequel to its highly acclaimed and fan favourite Season 1 that aired in 2019. With the state the show is in right now, it is hard even to find the adjectives to describe how bland and bad it is. Any effort used to describe it will probably be more than the writers and showrunners put in to create the key animation and story for this season. However, even with all this in mind, I think I have found the perfect way to describe what has been happening with the show. The description is very apt, and surprisingly it took me this long to realise this, but this entire season has been full of perhaps the laziest writing ever put to television.

This used to be a show known for its innovation and the new things it brought to the isekai adventure genre. However, not one decision made in this season has been even slightly creative in any shape or form. The show has turned into every other generic isekai show that has its split-second of the spotlight in every season and fades away faster than a line drawn in the sand. Even so, there was perhaps no more generic and rock-bottom decision than to make Raphtalia a hero alongside Naofumi in the previous episode. We have discussed some instances of lazy writing before, but this tops all of them.

That would still have been somewhat acceptable if the show addressed the conflict this plot thread creates in the latest episode, but it didn’t. Such a monumental moment got barely a mention in The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 11, let alone a full-fledged discussion. Instead, the episode went towards deciphering the most common villain motivation in the world. Not just that, but the confrontation between the two different world heroes also went down like a wet fart and was as satisfying as slamming your pinky toe against a table.

There was action in this episode, and while it has never been the best thing about the show, usually, it has at least been passable. This time, however, the action couldn’t have been done any worse. It made very little narrative sense, was extremely clunky, there were a total of maybe three moves used throughout the entirety of it, and it ended in just as unsatisfying a manner as you can expect from this show. All this was done for the sake of a character who will be forgotten as soon as the episode ends. There really is nothing good to say about this show, is there?

The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 11 was a product of a show that stopped caring about 14 episodes ago. It is here as a relic of the times when people actually put in some effort into the first season, just to throw it all away as soon as they could get their grubby little hands on some other property. There is no rescuing this now, as according to a very helpful commentator, the show has already strayed too far from the Light Novel for any of this to ever make sense. Well, good luck to the team, I suppose.

Verdict

The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 11 wasn’t even worthy enough to hate. It just existed in the realm of equally bad and lazy sequels, such as season 2s of Tokyo Ghoul and The Promised Neverland.
