The Time Traveler’s Wife Episode 3 is now out! This HBO drama is a romantic, science fiction drama created by Steven Moffat and based on the novel of the same name by Audrey Niffenegger. The series is directed by Game of Thrones’ David Nutter and produced by Warner Bros. Television and Hartswood Films.
It stars Rose Leslie and Theo James in the main role as Clare Abshire and Henry DeTamble, respectively. The other cast members include Caitlin Shorey, Everleigh McDonell, Brian Altemus, Jason David, Kate Siegel, Desmin Borges, Natasha Lopez, Michael Park, Jaime Ray Newman and Taylor Richardson amongst others. The third episode of the series is out now and has a runtime of 47 minutes.

The Time Traveler’s Wife Episode 3: Clare’s Story
It is important to remember that this HBO series is called The Time Traveler’s Wife, so it was always meant to be Clare’s story, of her being the wife of a Time Traveler. However, in the first two episodes, the makers took some time to establish the story from Henry’s side and his abilities, keeping Clare mostly on the sidelines. In The Time Traveler’s Wife Episode 3, it is Clare who takes the front seat and, finally, it feels like one true ride to be on.
The episode ones with the oldest version of Clare speaking to the video cam, recording herself as she talks about the time Henry visited her during her teen years and what it was like. It is also the episode which justifies the story and gives perspective to Clare and Henry’s relationship and the birth of Clare’s approach towards art- sculpting. We are looped back to the scenes from the first episode where a six-year-old Clare meets a 30-something Henry for the first time and they form an unlikely friendship. We see the two become friends as time passes with Clare growing older and Henry visiting her from time to time.
We also see Henry set boundaries for a growing Clare, almost never accepting their future together. However, we come across one fateful night when Clare is hurt by someone which leaves the audience disturbed and Henry incorrigibly angry. The episode starts with snippets from the first episode and ends with the same, forming a perfect circle of showing us how Clare grew up around Henry and what was their rapport when Clare was going through her different ages.

The Time Traveler’s Wife Episode 3 is by far the most authentic representation of Audrey Niffenegger’s novel. The makers did not shy away from the disturbing material of Clare’s sexual assault and tried their best to represent Henry and Clare’s changing relationship dynamics, making it easier for the audiences to understand them. We see Rose Leslie as the oldest Clare accept how Henry was around her while growing up- with a six-year-old Clare we see a friendly, funny Henry, with a ten-year-old Clare we get a guardian figure like Henry and at sixteen Henry feels closer to a protective friend.
It was refreshing to see Clare’s perspective finally come to light. Rose Leslie’s portrayal was just right to empathize with Clare but, also be angry at her at times. Leslie nailed the part that is giving us a spectrum of emotions as we got to know Clare in this story.
The Time Traveler’s Wife Episode 3: Final Thoughts
Overall, The Time Traveler’s Wife Episode 3 was the strongest episode so far in the series. With only three more episodes to go, one can expect more disturbing and twisty roads ahead. This episode was the show’s first step towards giving us some harsh realities which is surely increase as we progress down this beautiful, tragic story. A lot of Henry and Clare’s stories remain to be explored and, hopefully with time, we will get there with the excellence as good as the third episode (or, even better, who knows!)
