Chris Distefano: Speshy Weshy is the first comedy special of comedian Chris Distefano released by Netflix. The special is a little more than half an hour and is very engaging and funny. The comedian has previously released his first stand up special on Comedy Central, Size 38 Waist, and has his own podcast, History Hyenas. In fact, Distefano was all set to release Chris Distefano: Speshy Weshy on YouTube, as no one was ready to let him do a stand up special on their platform. But it seems like Netflix ultimately decided to give the comedian a chance to showcase his funny bone after all.

Dark jokes told in a hearty manner
At 36 minutes, Chris Distefano: Speshy Weshy is short but sweet, at least it won’t leave your attention wandering. At a very perky start of the show, Chris Distefano arrives on stage announcing he’s drunk on six martinis which he’d promised himself he won’t drink. Such a declaration immediately creates a very jovial atmosphere which is quickly augmented with a joke about the ongoing war in Ukraine. Upon being asked by his daughter why his teeth are yellow, he replies, “Cause I stand with Ukraine.”
According to Chris Distefano, “The silver lining of the conflict is at least its white people killing white people.” Commenting on the increasing diversity among previously predominantly white populations, Distefano jokingly predicts that by 2025 it will be illegal to have all white children. With more such jokes, Chris Distefano: Speshy Weshy is woke and self-aware about the current PC and cancel culture, as he talks about being called out on Twitter some time ago.
Talking about the cancel culture, Distefano mentions the cancellation of Kevin Hart for the homophobic jokes he made some ten years ago. He says, actions used to speak louder than words, but now it’s the other way around. About Kevin Hart being on Jumanji, Distefano says, nobody who doesn’t “guzzles cum” would have done something like Jumanji. To this, the audience breaks into peals of laughter. The charm of Chris Distefano: Speshy Weshy is that the jokes a mildly offensive but funny, so you don’t really pay attention to the offensive part much.

It also goes hand in hand with Chris Distefano’s comic style, i.e, to push a joke a little bit further, to the slightly non-pc side, to see how far he can go. Of course, all this with his characteristic cheerful and amiable style makes for an entertaining 36 minutes of comedy. Distefano captures the attention of the audience. His jokes are short and funny and his delivery is very clear and crisp, leaving no space for you to lose interest. He takes up current topics, such as the pandemic, mask regulations, the Ukraine war, his daughters and Latino women etc.
In Chris Distefano: Speshy Weshy, Distefano also takes a jibe at Netflix for being fired from a Netflix show earlier due to his controversial comment. His comment may be offensive, but his self-awareness and self-derision make for very engaging storytelling and comedy. You can be assured that “Chrissy Calcutta”, which is his Indian porn name, of which he claims to be a fan, will not let you down at all.
Chris Distefano: A Very Speshy Weshy show
He uses some very dark and serious topics to joke the hell out of and tests the audience’s limits. The audience, us, on the other hand, feel delighted by such an if-not-positive, light take on things so grim. Especially, when he is talking about the pandemic and how he was living in “hell”, i.e, with his family of two girls and his wife, is quite relatable. His view on wearing masks may be a bit too “American”, i.e., “my life, my rules” type, but so are a lot of his other views.
But all that individuality is wrapped up in a hilarious comedy routine and will keep you thoroughly entertained if you try not to think too much of it. Also, very cute addition to the special is the title, which is a spin on how his daughter calls the pandemic “pandy-wandy”, hence the special is “speshy weshy”.
