The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Episode 3 Review- Old Friends

Meeting The Genius Prince's Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt Episode 3

The shows previous outing revealed a lot more about its connections and relationships. For one, we figured out that Ninym and Wein share a special connection, whether it be love or something else. We also learnt that Wein attended a prestigious imperial military academy, where he learnt all the tricks of his trade, which, combined with his terrifying natural intellect, make for a highly enjoyable and subtly dangerous personality.

Wein gets a visit from a ghost of his and Ninym’s past, Lowa. Lowa doesn’t come alone, however. With her comes a proposal and a conspiracy, as the show moves forward with another of a ruler’s common and often-explored characteristics- matchmaking. Whereas in other shows, this would be taken in as an easy opportunity to introduce a harem aspect to the show, Genius Prince Episode 3 is not very regular.

It uses this opportunity to introduce a fearsome character whose motives lie far beyond the rather simplistic use of marriage as a political tool, something else which would require Wein’s help. This storyline forms the crux of the show’s first of (hopefully) many long arcs that would take more time to do well. This was a good episode to start, as it gave the viewers a lot of context about how the universe is set up and the political situations of the same.

The Genius Prince’s Guide Episode 3 also went a little further into the Ninym-Wein relationship and introduced some more interesting elements. The duo has fantastic chemistry between them aided by the wonderful dialogue that manages to come across despite the show being in a totally different language that most of us can’t speak. The show is taking things slowly on this front, which is fine since there is so much left to go.

Much of the show’s quality so far has been because of the strength of the core two characters- Wein and Ninym. Wein gets a lot of chance to shine in this episode as well, coming off as effortlessly smart and wise beyond his years. He is believable in his intellect, as the show writes it as him being crafty and diligent, and not him having a superior IQ or always going up against buffoons who fit more at a zoo than a king’s court. He is also revealed to be very progressive in this episode, and honestly, good for him.

This was a great setup to what promises to be an eventful and fun series of episodes. While I’m not sure what made this episode important enough to skip the opening and ending themes, it didn’t drag for a second, and thus I didn’t have a reason to complain. Can’t wait to see what happens next in this underdog of a series we have here.

Verdict

The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt Episode 3 was a gripping and fun start to a new arc. It didn’t drag for a second while developing a lot of interesting character dynamics.
