Dexter: New Blood Episode 4 Review: Hero or a Villain?

Dexter: New Blood Episode 4 ‘H is for Hero’ is now out. Directed by Sanford Bookstaver, Tony Saltzman wrote the 43 minutes episode. The series stars Michael C Hall, Jack Alcott, Julia Jones, Alano Miller, Jennifer Carpenter and Clancy Brown.

The synopsis for the new episode reads, “Dexter senses trouble when his last victim’s father reveals he is alive. Further, Dexter learns that Harrison was part of an incident at the high school and is now hailed as a hero by the entire town! What exactly happened?”

Dexter: New Blood Episode 4 Review Contains Mild Spoilers

Dexter: New Blood Episode 4 ‘H is for Hero’ starts with Dexter (Michael C Hall) thinking about Kurt’s (Clancy Brown) claim that he face-timed his son Matt. Debra (his imagination) tells him the possibilities of why Kurt is lying. One of the possibilities she tells her brother is that Kurt might find out that Dexter killed his son. Well, that’s new trouble for Iron Lake’s Jim.

On the other hand, Harrison gets attacked by Ethan as the latter plans a school shooting. Harry tells cop Angela and Dexter that Ethan stabbed him in his stomach. As self-defence, Harrison had to attack Ethan’s legs with a knife to stop him from harming any students. Everyone believes Harrison’s story and calls him a hero for saving the lives of his schoolmates. But is he really a hero? Well, Dexter has some doubts.

Amid all this, we find out more about Kurt, how Harrison listens to Molly Park’s (Jamie Chung) podcast on the Trinity Killer and a lot more. The episode indeed took a huge turn in many ways, and this is still just the beginning. As I mentioned in my earlier reviews, the series must have started slow, but there will be exciting twists once it picks up.

Dexter: New Blood Episode 4 will make Dexter series lovers happy. We see our favourite serial killer get into his forensic blood splatter analyst mode for some time. As usual, Debra is mind-blowing, and she makes me laugh while displaying Dexter’s “wet dream” in one of the scenes. Harrison has been a mystery, and before his father, the audience got suspicious of him. Now has Dexter has doubts too, we wonder what he plans next.

I don’t want to give away more from today’s episode. But I am astounded by Dexter’s smirk at the end of today’s episode. I wish I could tell more in detail, but that’s something you need to see. It’s a chilling scene as the mystery just unfolds itself while teasing us a bit with what’s happening.

Dexter: New Blood Episode 4 Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, the fourth episode of Dexter: New Blood was intriguing and thrilling AF! Sanford Bookstaver gave us two brilliant episodes which have made people come up with multiple theories. The casting for the new cast couldn’t have been better. Michael C Hall and Jennifer Carpenter are obviously phenomenal. It’s also the 100th episode of the show. So just go and watch the new episode ASAP!

The latest episode is now streaming on Voot.
