What If Episode 3 Recap: Discussion
Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) and Natasha Romanoff (Lake Bell) of S.H.I.E.L.D. meet with Tony Stark/Iron Man (Mike Wingert) to talk about the Avengers Initiative. As seen in Iron Man 2, Tony is enjoying his doughnuts by sitting inside the massive doughnut. Natasha injects lithium dioxide into Stark, just like in the movie. Unfortunately, he dies. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is also killed before he ever gets his hands on the hammer. Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) is suspected of shooting Thor, while Natasha is accused of killing Tony. The streak of death continues as Clint and Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) also get murdered.

As the Avengers candidates are assassinated one by one, Nick Fury and Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) are concerned. If that wasn’t enough, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) arrives on Earth seeking vengeance for the death of his brother Thor. Nick assures Loki that he will find out who murdered Thor and others before dawn. Natasha Romanoff discovers who killed the superheroes and is murdered while telling Nick about it over the phone.
You’ll be surprised by the reveal of who killed the Avengers and why they did so. We also get to watch how trickster and malevolent Loki finally dominates Midgard by delivering “peace between the countries” once the killer is caught.
What If…? Episode 3 Review: Discussion

Today’s episode is painful to watch. When I say painful, I mean it hurts you to see Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff dying again! I never thought I’d see Thor, Clint and Hulk dead. Without wasting any time in the beginning, writers A.C. Bradley and Matthew Chauncey fetch your attention in What If Episode 3. The twist is unexpected, and the killer’s motive suits the level of damage he’s done to Nick Fury.
The episode also showed us the potential of Nick Fury and Loki, which we all wish was shown better in movies. I’m pretty sure some people will say Tom Hiddleston’s character got better treatment in today’s episode compared to his standalone series. But it was good to see Loki and Nick Fury working together, even if it was just for a few moments.

Despite being a distressing episode for OG Avengers fans, there are some classic Marvel jokes and cinematic parallels. The best funny lines are given to Loki and Agent Coulson. The episode ends with Captain Marvel’s smashing entry. “Welcome back, Captain,” says Fury, to which Carol responds, “Where’s the fight?” So is it going to be Captain Marvel Vs Loki? I hope so.
Final Thoughts

Overall, today’s episode is worth watching. Some of you might relive Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame pain. But watch it for Nick Fury, Agent Coulson, Natasha Romanoff, Loki and their potential.
