The Barrier episode 9 recap

The Barrier episode 9 is a rollercoaster of emotions and new findings.

First and foremost, after keeping Sergio at their house, Julia and Hugo find themselves out of a job. But they are able to reach Luis and ask him to meet Sergio’s real parents. This results in Alma rethinking her strategies because she realises that Luis has started to doubt her stories. After a passionate discussion, Alma uses her superb manipulating powers to steer the decision in her favour. However, does this spell doom for the poor couple?

Another big outcome of The Barrier episode 9 is that Emilia and Alex are up in arms regarding the lost children. After Carlos gives Julia a very important piece of evidence, Marta recognises some of the children in it, and this results in Alex putting up fliers all over the city. That doesn’t sit well for the police, who arrest him. Fernando promises to be an important character for the upcoming episodes, and we see that he might have more at stake than we were initially made to believe.

Emilia, with Alex, gets a head start on starting a revolution. This might grow into a direct revolt against the government and, particularly, Alma. Speaking of Alma, she goes to meet her brother at the facility, where it is revealed that her previous decision has resulted in something horrible. However, her nonchalance at the situation and the causal way in which she decides to bring in more test subjects is honestly alarming, and spells doom for everyone.

In between all of this, there’s news in The Barrier episode 9 that the virus has started to spread more, and Madrid just might go into lockdown. Is this news true? Or is the government just using the virus as a means to control people even more?

Will Alma’s decision bring in suffering to everyone? What happens to Marta? Will Alex and Emilia be able to stop more children from vanishing? Will there be a revolution? What happens when the virus reaches them? What happens to Manuela?

We are left with all of these questions, and the hope that Hugo and his family and Luis will be able to come up with a solution and stand up against this authoritarian rule. The stakes are getting higher, with Luis coming to know some hard-hitting truths. It remains to be seen where everyone’s decisions take them.

The Barrier episode 9 is streaming on Netflix.
