James Duncan Halpert, also commonly known as Jim from The Office was a sincere lover of Pam Beesley, arch-nemesis of Dwight Schrute, and a reluctant friend cum employee of Michael Scott. But more than any of that, deep down inside he was a mean guy.
Now before any of you, die-hard office fans pull out your swords of righteousness, hear me out and my reasoning for the same. I believe Jim Halpert was a great guy, but not without multiple(and often repetitive) shortcomings. Here are the top 5 moments where Big Tuna was the meanest guy in the room.
1. Breaking Up with Katy Moore- Season 2
Season 2 Episode 11 was the last time we got to witness the pair of Katy Moore Aka the Hot Girl(played by Amy Adams) and Jim Halpert. The purse saleswoman became the instant talk of The Office and was vowed unsuccessfully by both Dwight and Michael. However, it was Jimbo the great who ended up dating Katy for a short and abrupt period of time.
The very reason Jim asked out Katy in the first place was his direct envy of Roy Anderson. In one of the earlier episodes, Jim saw Pam and Roy together and decided to date Katy immediately. Therefore, he was never in love with her, nor did Jim have any sort of feelings for Katy. Which is why he dumped her bluntly without any explanation.
I don’t know what qualifies as the definition of ‘mean’, but breaking up with your partner without any dialogue, definitely tops the list.
2. Jim Never Misses Out On Revenge- Season 6
Jim Halpert never missed a beat on taking his revenge. Therefore, when he got the first chance to get even with Ryan, he took it without blinking. I know many fans will straightaway point out, ” What’s wrong with a payback?”
Well, nothing much. But seeking stone-cold revenge on somebody who has faced a downright career fall due to addiction, and is starting from the bottom of the ladder again, is definitely not a sign of a strong character. Maybe the old Ryan deserved it, but not the redemptive one.
Plus if it’s any consolation, Ryan never moved out of the smallest cubicle.

3. Some Pranks went too far
I know the most interesting part of the mockumentary show was Jim Pranking Dwight (And to be honest, even I enjoyed a chunk of it). But it will be an injustice on the part of the Schrute family successor, to not accept that some pranks went really too far.
Look at the intensity of the identity theft prank, or even the snowball one. The guy almost risked his job at times to come up with creative ways of exploring Dwight’s ignorance. Maybe they both ended up becoming frenemies in the last couple of seasons, but you can’t ignore the constant trouble that Jim created for Dwight.
Furthermore, as a Dwight supporter, I was the most satisfied when the Schrute genius pranked him back in the Halloween Episode.
4. The Koi Pond Incident- Season 6
Michael Scott always tried to be the best-onesided buddy of Jim Halpert. He even ignored Jim wasting his time around the office and took him out for lunches. But what did Jim do? He let Michael fall inside a Koi Pond. Now that’s what you call repayment for friendship.
The moment was so selfish and mean, that the entire office stood in favour of Michael. Even though things were sorted in the end, the look on Jim’s face says it all.
5. The Worst Roommate- Season 9
Darryl was one of the most chill guys in The Office and tuned with each and every one. It was easy to assume that when he and Jim moved to Philly, they both would have the best time together. However, things were pretty opposite.
Jim showcased zero effort in proving himself as a worthy roommate and gave a really hard time to Darryl. Moreover, it’s not an easy job to add discomfort in the life of the most friendly guy.
