Burnout Recovery: 4 Keys to Love and Live Your Life

Life can be difficult at times for a variety of reasons, some of which are inexplicable. Be it work or family stress, when it reaches an ending point, it can physically and mentally exhaust a person. Such exhaustion, where one person drops down the ladder, is considered burnout. Burnout is nothing but chronic stress that leads people to feel down and lost in life. It could lead people to forget their life’s purpose, lose track, and sometimes lead to a chronic disorder.

Indeed reported during the pandemic that when they surveyed 1,500 US employees, 43% agreed to be experiencing severe burnout. It revealed that the percentage would be way too high if the study were conducted on more US employees. Speaking of burnout, have you been feeling tired and cramped in your thoughts recently? Have you been experiencing extreme body pain and emotional instability?

If so, hold on, my friend. Today we are going to share with you some strategies to help you get back on track. Remember that whatever you’re going through is valid, and we are here to help you.

Find Your Stressors

When things get difficult, we might tend to forget what caused it. Lost in thought can leave one unsure of why, how, or for what they are stressed. The first thing one should do is take a book and write down what has been causing them to feel sad. Is it because of a breakup, work issues, family troubles, the loss of a loved one, repetitive failures, financial burdens, and such?

Making a note of your stressors can help you focus on them one by one. Healing is a step-by-step process, and so when you figure out the source behind your burnout, you can accordingly plan to shift the stress point to a turning point.

Exercise

Exercising is not just about keeping your body fit; it also has various effects on your mental health. According to the John W. Brick Mental Health Foundation, 89% of all published research from 1990 to 2022 indicated that exercising or being active had a positive impact on mental health. It also stated that people suffering from severe depression could greatly benefit from working out for 30 to 45 minutes three to five times per week.

During the burnout phase, one can tend to forget things, overthink, or feel physical pain. Hence, working out and getting your blood pumped can benefit your focus and help you think about what needs to be done next.

Talk to Friends

Speaking to your friends, spending time with them, and going out can really help you cope with burnout. If you have a group of friends or just one friend, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that you know you can confide in them. Talk to them and tell them how you have been feeling for some time. Sometimes just venting and having someone listen can help you feel like half your burden has been lifted.

If you wish to talk to your family members—your sibling or spouse—you can truly do that. A little guidance from your loved ones can help you realize that you matter and that there are people who love you.

Seek a Professional

If, after following all the above steps, you still seem clueless, then seeking a therapist can be highly beneficial. A professional therapist can help you recover by employing various therapy methods. If your condition requires medication, they can refer you to a psychiatrist for further procedures. Usually, people can come out of the burnout phase by attending regular therapy sessions and cooperating in the activities the therapist suggests.

A therapist can also make you join a group where many people facing burnout come together, share their experiences, and work together to love their lives again. Professional help will surely allow you to find out your key methods for getting back on track.
